A home for different religions
The city of Fundão will have an interreligious space where the 11 religious entities in the municipality will be able to carry out activities, revealed to Jornal do Fundão the councilor in the Municipality of Fundão Alcina Cerdeira, on the sidelines of the interreligious meeting "Welcoming the other in Sacred Texts and Practices" that brought together dozens of people of various religious sensibilities at Casino Fundanense. The interreligious space is located on Cidade da Covilhã street in front of the Fundão fire brigade and was born from the will of the Muslim, Hindu and other communities that "on different days, depending on each of the religious calendars, they can enjoy a large space, in which the communities themselves have been cooperating in the revitalization of the ground floor of a building that was once a space for prayer".
The principle of tolerance
Giving visibility to the religious phenomenon, promoting dialogue between all sensibilities, was the objective of the interreligious meeting that, on December 2nd, brought together Portuguese citizens and foreigners, representing the 11 religious entities inserted in the 70 different nationalities existing in Fundão. The day, as part of the municipal strategy of full reception of the new places, will have a new moment of celebration on December 18: Religious multiculturalism has been fully accepted in Portugal since 2001, the year in which the Assembly of the Republic approved legislation that safeguards religious pluralism and equality, protecting human rights. Even so, interreligious dialogue is still necessary, said Cristina Rodrigues of AIMA - Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum, stressing the importance of "tolerance in religious diversity, trust and empathy regarding the sensitivities of the various nationalities", in a time of enormous demand and when the world remains in constant conflict. At the interreligious meeting held in Fundão, the interreligious calendar published by AIMA was made known, where the festivities of each of the most representative religious denominations in Portugal are presented, as well as the national and international events of the United Nations and the European Union.
